David - A Man After God's Own Heart: Handling Temptation in Tough Circumstances (1 Samuel 23, 24)

We can learn a very important lesson from David's life. There were times David was very successful in combating temptations and there were other times he succumbed to temptations. This Sunday, we will focus on four important things David did to refuse temptations and not yield to them.

David - A Man After God's Own Heart: The Musician (1 Samuel 16:14-23)

David was definitely a man's man. Before he was old enough to serve in the king's army he'd killed bear, slain a giant and snatched one of his father's sheep from the jaws of a lion, grabbed it by the beard and threw it to the ground before beheading it. As a warrior, he is known to be a man of valor, a great strategist and leader. On top of it all, he is reputed to be talented, well-spoken and good looking! Who wouldn't want to be like David? In addition, David was also a great artist; he penned over half of the book of Psalms; gave direction to the architects planning some of the greatest buildings of his day; and was a skillful musician. Aside from his faith in God, the one constant that accompanied him throughout his entire life's journey, was his love of music. As we look at this aspect of David's life, we can't help but see how God designed music to be a part of our daily walk with Him - and (maybe suprisingly) not just to give voice to our worship.

David - A Man After God's Own Heart: Facing the Giants in Our Lives (1 Samuel 17:1-11, 32-50)

The story of David and Goliath remains as one of the most famous and remembered stories in the Bible.
We never tire of hearing how a young boy was able to defeat a giant. One reason for that is we can
indentify with "giants" in our lives and how challenging it is to face them head on, hoping to end
up on the winning side. When one stands at his full height in the face of obstacles, when one refuses
to shrink back but instead gives his own best, when one sincerely says to life, "I come to you in the
name of the Lord," victory is just around the corner.

David - A Man After God's Own Heart: Dads: Making the Most of Every Situation (Proverbs 22:6)

In the Bible, God gives His blueprint for a successful home. When fathers take God's instructions seriously and become role models for their children by putting God first in all things, the blessings are phenomenal. When God's instructions are not taken seriously, the results will be disastrous. King David had his challenges as a father and his story serves as a important lesson for everyone.

David - A Man After God's Own Heart: The Anointing (1 Samuel 16:11-23)

We are going to look at an Old Testament practice, "anointing", that was essential to accomplish God's purposes when David was chosen to be the next king of Israel. Though we do not actually "anoint" people today, symbolically we must have it to accomplish God's plans for us. Without it, everything we do will only be a shell of activity that will leave us breathless from a series of frustrated efforts, amounting to little. With God's anointing, we can face life's circumstances with courage, joy and inner peace.

We begin a new series this week entitled, "David - A Man After God's Own Heart." David was a great man, though far from perfect, nevertheless he lived a life with strengths worth emulating. It is very important that we begin with the knowledge that he was chosen by God to be King of Israel. In Sunday's message, we will look at some of those qualities that sets one apart for service to God.

Life Revolved: Lead Us Not Into Temptation, But Deliver Us (Matthew 6:13)

As we near the end of our series of messages on The Lord's Prayer, we come to the petition,
"and lead us not in temptation but deliver us from evil." This petition is a stern reminder
that the Christian life is a battleground. We are not able to effectively do battle alone and
so we ask God to be the source of strength to help us. It is a terrible mistake to
underestimate the power of Satan and to overestimate our own strength.

Life Revolved: As We Forgive Our Debtors (Matthew 6:12 and Matthew 18:21-35)

We will be continuing our study in The Lord's Prayer by considering the petition,
"as we forgive our debtors." We will learn that our forgiveness is not the ground
of God's forgiveness. The only ground of our forgiveness is Christ's atoning
work. Our forgiveness of others is an expression of our appreciation for God's
forgiveness of us. If we do not truly forgive others from our heart, it's a
question whether we truly know the reality of God's forgiveness in our

Because of God's great love, we are able to pray, "Forgive us our debts." Do you know that God wants to bless

minister to others. God can use all kinds of vessels - shy vessels, plain vessels, ordinary vessels and even

Life Revolved: Give Us Today Our Daily Bread (Matthew 6:11)

"Give us this day our daily bread." Christ opens our eyes to see our daily bread as a symbol of our new way
of life. Through our daily bread, He give us strength for hallowing God's name, for advancing His Kingdom,
and for doing His will. So big things are at stake in this little prayer.

This week, we begin a series of messages on The Lord's Prayer. It is important to note that this is the only thing the disciples ever asked the Lord
to teach them. They never asked Him to teach them how to perform miracles, how to organize a church, or even how to win the world. After they had seen Jesus
praying, they realized that once they learned how to pray, all of these other things would come. The Lord's Prayer is a pattern to follow, and as one prays within
that framework, he will find himself taking hold of the power of God.

Jesus concludes the Sermon on the Mount by comparing the building of one's life to the building of houses.
One can build either on the rocks or on the sand. The rocks are the turths that Jesus taught in the Sermon
on the Mount. To build on those principles is not easy because we will experience challenging times in our
lives. Not only will the storms in life come, there will also be those times that it seems the causes of
evil prosper the most, but we know that God has the final word.

In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus specifically instructs us how to live our life in such a way that God is honored

God doesn't just drop those resources in our laps, but rather tells us to take deliberate steps through prayer by
asking, seeking and knocking. Sunday's message serves as a great encouragement to fully depend on God to help us

Life Revolved: Love Expresses Itself in Giving (Matthew 6:1-4)

When you give to a need, why do you give? There are many good reasons as to why you
would practice giving to the needy. The main point that Jesus is communicating here
is that we need to be sure that our hearts are right when we give. If we give to gain
favor with God or get attention from other people our motives are wrong and our reward
will be short lived. If we give with the proper motives, we will be rewarded by God
			and the blessings are incredible!

<itunes:summary>When you give to a need, why do you give? There are many good reasons as to why you
would practice giving to the needy. The main point that Jesus is communicating here
is that we need to be sure that our hearts are right when we give. If we give to gain
favor with God or get attention from other people our motives are wrong and our reward
will be short lived. If we give with the proper motives, we will be rewarded by God
			and the blessings are incredible!</itunes:summary>

Life Revolved: Doing the Unnatural (Matthew 5:38-48)

Without too much difficulty, we can recall these familiar phrases, "Turn the other cheek," "Walk the second mile,"
and "Love your enemies." We know that following Jesus' instruction is good and right, but why is it so hard to do?
Why does Jesus asks us to live the Christian life in a way that sometimes seems impossible or at the least unnatural?
Today's message will help us get a clearer understanding of why Jesus would ask us to honor His teaching.

We continue the "Sermon on the Mount" series and will touch on some very heavy subject matters

Was it necessary that Jesus speak against lust, adultery and divorce? Is what Jesus teaches relevant

marriage, a job you dread facing every morning, financial pressures, professional pressures and maybe something
as simple as daily pressures. The Bible has something to say about how we are to face these pressures. One pressure that
many of us have faced is relational pressures. When a situation is such that we have the responsibility to take the first step in
mending a relationship and offering frogiveness. In our Scripture lesson on Sunday, Jesus teaches us the why's and how's of

To be merciful, one must first of all experience God's mercy. When we realize how merciful
God has been to us, it is then that we can show true mercy to others, especially those who have
hurt us in some way. Mercy will show itself in our willingness to forgive others.

The Beatitudes serve as a great guideline to Christian living. First of all,
the Beatitudes tell us what Christians are to be like. They tell us
how Christians are to live their lives. Secondly, all the Beatitudes
should be present in the Christian's life if we are going to truly honor Christ.
Thirdly, Jesus teaches us that living the Beatitudes fills our life to the fullest.
I trust that we will all enjoy "walking with Jesus" in exploring and understanding
the importance and blessings of living the Beatitudes.

We conclude our summer series, Show Me Your Character. The characteristic trait that will be highlighted is peace and the character that displayed peace throughout his life was Joseph. Though he was sold as a slave by his brothers and wrongfully accused and imprisoned because of false claims made by the ruler's wife, Joseph knew peace because he relied on God in all circumstances. The story of Joseph give us valuable insight into how we can and should respond when faced with difficult situations.

Continuing the summer series, Show Me Your Character, Pastor Ron will be teaching. God tells us that we are to be content with what we have in life e.g. our present state of circumstances, our finances, our status in life, as well as our health. He says it is godly to do so. Just how content should we be with our world, with millions of people who are hungry, hurting, helpless and homeless and many who are without Jesus? What level of discontent surfaces when you feel as God must feel about these situations? We will see how good it is to fuel our discontent so that God can use us to reach the world for Him.

As we continue in our summer series, Show Me Your Character. There are many things in life where choice was not an option - when you were born, where your were born, your gender, your race, etc. But there are other things in life where we have been given the privilege to choose. One very important choice we make has to do with life after death. When Jesus was crucified, there were two criminals crucified alongside Him. The Bible tells us that one of the criminals made a good choice and received eternity and glory, while the other criminal made a bad choice and forfeited eternity. Each one of us has (or will) make a choice regarding eternity.

This series would not be complete without looking at one of the well-known characters of the Old Testament, David. The Bible contains several stories about David, but perhaps the one enjoyed by all is David's encounter with Goliath. David inspires us through his courage and trust in God.

SHOW ME YOUR CHARACTER: Simon Peter - A picture of Passion (Acts 3 and 4)

Simon Peter has endured centuries of criticism for his impetuous, sometimes hot-headed nature. The one thing Peter can never be faulted for, however, is a lack of passion. The same passion that regularly got him into trouble, ultimately fueled the birth of the Church. Through Simon Peter's example, we see how powerful and necessary it is to experience passion - especially as it impacts our relationship with Christ and His Church.

As we conclude our study of the book of Ephesians, the Apostle Paul reminds his readers that living the Christian life is not easy. As a matter of fact, be prepared because there will be attacks by Satan. Stand, pray, be steadfast, hold on! But as you stand you are offered the armor of God and the strength to "stand," to "withstand," and "having done all, to stand."

For the past several weeks we have been looking at what God's Word teaches about significant relationships within the family - the church family and individual families. As parents, we should give our children the impression that there is nothing in life comparable to being a Christian. We should create within them the desire to be like us. Our method should never be forced, but in all we are and do and say, let them know that Jesus is first in our lives.

As we celebrate Palm Sunday, we remember Jesus' entry into Jerusalem that eventually led to His crucifixion. Jesus went to Jerusalem because it was God's will for Him. It was the reason that He was born. All of history moved toward this crucial event of reconciliation. We have "Jerusalem's" in our life too. To face whatever in ourselves, our relationships or our world that gets in the way of honoring Christ, must be dealt with in light of God's will for you.

A Christian is not just a person who decides one day to become a bit more moral, or join a church. What makes a person a Christian is that that person has been born again, been given a new nature, is a new creation and is committed to Jesus Christ.
